COLOURFUL MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION IN ASIPA

Mother's Day is a cheerful celebration to honour and appreciate the mothers for their roles in the family. It is a day mothers are supposed to be showered with gifts, greeting cards, cakes, etc. The 2018 edition of Mothers' day celebration at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Asipa, is one that cannot be forgotten in a long while. It was a 4-day event, which took place from 19th - 22nd of April,2018. The program kicked off with a fun-filled football match between the CWO and CMO, with the CWO winning with 5 goals to 3.

Friday, the 20th of April was set aside for retreat to prepare the women spiritually for the celebration. The parish priest, Rev. Fr. John Idio, OMV, who was the retreat director, spoke about an ideal woman and her roles in the family, church and society at large. Drawing lessons from PROVERBS 31:10-30, Fr. John said: “An ideal woman is a virtuous woman that possesses good qualities. She is noble in character, trustworthyhumble, free from vice, immorality and wickedness. She is a home builder, a peace maker in family and an indispensable helper to the husband.”

Saturday the 21st of April was designated for Health Walk and awareness campaign about preserving the sanctity of human life and promoting the dignity of womanhoodSunday the 22nd of April, the grand finale, was Thanksgiving Mass which was colourful and glorious as all women joined by all parishioners came out en-manse to thank God for the gift of motherhood. The women were the Altar servers, choristers, church wardenscatechists, readers, announcer, interpreter, etc. Simply put, it was an awesome celebration.

Mothers are unique and special. They are wonderful, elegant, great and indispensableTheir role in the life of a child and the family can't be quantified. May God continue to bless our mothers and all women.

Kudos to all the amazing women of Asipa Parish, and kudos too to those who worked behind the scene to make it captivating.

Mrs Deborah Busayo LATONA
