MOTHER MARY ON PILGRIMAGE TO ASIPA PARISH

As part of the celebrations of the Marian Year in Nigeria, the Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary visited our Parish, St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Asipa, Ibadan on the 13th to 16th of July, 2017. The Priests of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary serving in the parish and the entire parishioners came out en masse with joy and enthusiasm to welcome our Lady’s statue to the parish. There were lots of activities mapped out to mark the Madonna’s visit ranging from the Recitation of the Holy Rosary to Lectures on topical issues about the Blessed Virgin Mary. Individual and societal visitations were not left to pay their homage to Our Lady. The high point of the occasion was the celebration of the Holy Mass after which parishioners’ petitions were burnt. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. John Idio, OMV, addressing the people told them to go beyond the statue and see the Blessed Virgin Mary who is on a pilgrimage to our parish with blessings, favours and graces. The assistant Priest, Fr. Cosmas Amede, OMV, also encouraged the parishioners to increase their devotion and love for Mary.  The statue departed on Sunday the 16th of July for another parish.  Actually, God uses Mary to save souls. No matter how far away we are from God, Our Lady, who loves us so dearly, can serve as our co-pilot, to bring us safely back to God. She knows our needs and God listens to her and answers our prayers. She's our mother, after all. We can depend on her because her intercession is always very powerful. Maria Cogita, Maria Invoka!
